ATHENS, Ohio - The Indiana field hockey team topped No. 15 Ohio, 3-2, in Athens on Sunday, Sept. 18. Brenna Moeljadi scored the Hoosiers (6-2) first two goals and Jaclyn Zamudio scored IU's third goal in the win.
The Hoosiers got on the board in the 16th minute as Moeljadi scored her fifth goal of the season off a penalty scorner. Just seven minutes later, Moeljadi netted her sixth goal of the season off another penalty corner to give IU a 2-0 lead on the Bobcats (6-2). Katie Griswold and Brooke Borneman tallied the assists on the second goal of the game. The Indiana offense stayed hot as Zamudio scored her third goal of the year in the 25th minute, off another penalty corner to increase the Hoosier's advantage to 3-0. Borneman recorded her second assist of the game on the third goal.
The Hoosiers led 3-0 at the break, but Ohio came out and netted two goals, one in the 49th minute and one in the 59th minute to cut IU's lead to just one, but Indiana held on for the 3-2 victory.
Moeljadi led IU with two shots on goal for two goals and Zamudio tallied one shot on goal for one goal. Griswold recorded one shot on goal and recorded one assist, while Borneman tallied two assists.
The Bobcats outshot the Hoosiers, 13-4, but Indiana earned eight corners to Ohio's seven.
Maggie Olson started in the cage for Indiana and recorded five saves in 70:00 minutes.
The Hoosiers return to action on Friday, Sept. 23, when they play host to Northwestern in their Big Ten opener at 3 p.m. ET at the IU Field Hockey Complex in Bloomington.
