IUFH Extends Win Streak To Five Games, Defeat Ohio 3-1
Sept. 21, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana field hockey team won its fifth-straight game this afternoon with a 3-1 victory over visiting Ohio University at the IUFH Complex in Bloomington. The win improves the Hoosiers’ overall record to 5-2 and stings together their longest win streak since 2012 when IU won five consecutive games from Aug. 19 through Sept. 7.
Lorite put the Hoosiers on the board early in the contest with her fourth goal of the year in the third minute of play. The sophomore found a rebound just left of the cage and pushed it by Ohio’s Brittany Walker to give Indiana a 1-0 lead.
That 1-0 score would hold through the first half, but Heilman struck in the 40th minute to put IU up 2-0. She received a pass just outside of the circle and dribbled her way through a pair of defenders to the left of the net. Her shot slowly rolled across the mouth of the cage and snuck between the posts for her sixth goal of the season.
A penalty corner in the 58th minute set up Indiana’s final goal off the contest. Supica got the shot off after passes from Lorite and Bowker to put IU ahead 3-0.
Ohio broke up the shutout with a late goal in the 62nd minute and nearly scored again with an open net opportunity, but Supica was in position to make a defensive save to preserve the eventual 3-1 final.
The Hoosiers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 27 when they host Miami (Ohio). Game time is set for 3 p.m. ET.
