BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 18 Indiana field hockey team opened the Big Ten slate with a commanding 4-1 win over No. 15 Northwestern on Friday, Sept. 23 in Bloomington. Four different players scored each of the Hoosiers' (7-2, 1-0) goals.

Indiana got on the board in the first half as Katie Griswold took a pass from Morgan Fleetwood from the left side of the cage where she drove the ball into the right corner to put the Hoosiers up, 1-0, in the 21st minute.

The Hoosiers came out of the break and scored in the 42nd minute as Jaclyn Zamudio tipped a ball in off a shot taken by Brenna Moeljadi on a penalty corner. For IU's third goal, Danielle McNally scored her first of the season as she netted one in off a deflected shot in the 45th minute. Audra Heilman scored the Hoosiers' third goal in the 53rd minute as she tipped a ball in off a shot taken by Moeljadi on a penalty corner.

Northwestern (7-3, 0-1) scored the final goal of the game in the 68th minute as Claire Thompson scored an unassisted goal off a deflection.

The Wildcats outshot the Hoosiers, 19-18 and earned 14 corners to IU's eight.

Indiana's defense was also strong as Maggie Olson picked up the win with nine saves and Moeljadi recorded two defensive saves.
