Field Hockey Falls to No. 11 Iowa in Overtime
Oct. 5, 2012
Bloomington, Ind. – The Indiana field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to visiting No. 11-ranked Iowa at the IU Field Hockey Complex this afternoon to fall to 6-4 (0-4 Big Ten) on the season.
Viki Green, now 5-3, remained in goal for all 83:19 minutes and made a single-game career high 13 saves in the game.
The Hoosiers were outshot 32-8 in the setback, with Morgan Fleetwood leading IU with six shots in the contest. Fleetwood would also account for Indiana’s lone goal in the game with a quick score in the fourth minute on a pass from Marielle Grote.
After a lightning delay in the first 35 minutes, Iowa came back out in the second half of regulation with its answer when Marike Stribos converted on the penalty corner to tie the game at one goal apiece.
Both teams remained deadlocked throughout the remainder of regulation, forcing an overtime period and sudden death scoring situation. Iowa would eventually strike with a game-winner in the 84th minute on an unassisted goal by Aubrey Coleman.
The Hoosiers will return to action Sunday, Oct. 7 in Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami (Ohio) at 1 p.m.
