BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 15 Indiana field hockey team ended the home slate with a 4-2 win over Michigan State on Sunday, Oct. 9, in Bloomington. Brenna Moeljadi, Jaclyn Zamudio (two) and Morgan Fleetwood tallied the Hoosiers' (8-4, 2-2) four goals.
Indiana got on the board in the 10th minute as Moeljadi netted a goal on a penalty corner. Brooke Borneman and Katie Griswold picked up the assists on the goal as the Hoosiers took a 1-0 lead on the Spartans (6-9, 0-3). Michigan State tied it up in the 32nd minute as Abby Barker took a shot off a deflection and the ball rolled into the cage. Zamudio broke the tie in the 34th minute as she scored off of a deflection from a shot taken by Moeljadi that was blocked, which gave IU a 2-1 lead at the break.
Michigan State came out of halftime with some fire as Abby Barker scored in the 39th minute, after two failed attempts by Katherine Jamieson. With the score knotted at 2-2, the Hoosiers drew a penalty corner in the 57th minute where Fleetwood took one shot that was saved and then scored on her next shot to give Indiana a 3-2 lead. IU kept battling and in the 64th minute, Zamudio netted her second goal of the day as she tipped in a pass from Griswold for the 4-2 win.
Moeljadi and Fleetwood each tallied six shots, three on goal, apiece, while each scored one goal. Zamudio took two shots on goal for two goals. Borneman took one shot on goal and recorded one assist and Griswold tallied two assists.
Viki Green started in goal for the Hoosiers and recorded one save in 70:00 minutes.
Indiana outshot Michigan State, 15-8, and earned seven penalty corners to the Spartans' two.
The Hoosiers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, when they visit Iowa at 1 p.m. ET.
