BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana field hockey had goals from senior Haley Funk, junior Katie Griswold and redshirt freshman Morgan Fleetwood in a 3-1 victory over Central Michigan, on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the IU Field Hockey Field in Bloomington.
Funk got the Hoosiers (8-5) on the board early as she scored just 9:22 into the first period on a pass from Fleetwood, which she put in right behind CMU's goalkeeper. Griswold scored IU's second goal from the top of the circle on a pass from senior Lucy Ireland to take a 2-0 lead with 31:15 on the clock. Following the break, the Hoosiers got their final goal from Fleetwood as she tipped the ball in the cage off of a pass from Griswold to give IU a 3-0 lead at the 41:27 mark.
The Chippewas (3-8) got their only goal on their only shot on goal as Kelly Jordan scored from the top of the circle on a penalty corner.
The Hoosiers defense held strong, holding Central Michigan to just one shot in the first half and three on the game. Junior Alex Mann started in goal and shutout the Chippewas for 50:46. Sophomore Becky Pany played 19:14 tallied one save.
Funk and Griswold tallied their second goals of the weekend after they each netted a goal on Friday against Michigan State. Griswold also recorded an assist, along with Fleetwood and Ireland. Fleetwood also led the Hoosiers five shots on the game.
The Hoosiers outshot CMU, 12-3.
Indiana returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when it hosts Northwestern on Homecoming in Bloomington at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be tape delayed on the Big Ten Network on Sunday, Oct. 18 at Noon.
