Evanston, Ill. - After facing a 2-1 deficit through the first half, the Indiana field hockey team came back to score three unanswered in the final 35 minutes of regulation to close out its weekend stay in Evanston, Ill. with a 4-2 win over Central Michigan. The victory improves Indiana's overall record to 8-6 on the year.
Four separate Hoosiers netted goals in the contest, as Morgan Fleetwood, Mariella Grote, Rachel Stauffer and Gaby Olshemski each put one through the posts. Fleetwood also earned two assists.
The Chippewas' offense struck early in the 10th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead, but IU's Rachel Stauffer provided the equalizer in the 21st minute. Four minutes later, CMU reclaimed its lead as they headed into the half with a 2-1 advantage.
From there, it was all Indiana as the Hoosiers scored three answered goals to eventually leave with a 4-2 win. Grote tipped a pass from Fleetwood off the penalty corner to tally her fifth goal of the season and tie the game at two. Fleetwood then struck with an unassisted goal in the 55th minute to give Indiana its first lead of the day. Olshemski would give her squad some insurance in the 60th minute as she doubled Indiana's lead on a diving shot that found the back of the net.
Defensively, goalkeeper Viki Green made one save in 70 minutes of action and improves to 8-6 on the season.
Indiana will return to Bloomington, Ind. for on Oct. 19 and continue Big Ten action when they host Michigan at 4 p.m. ET.
