July 10, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- Indiana Athletics has announced the Scholar-Athletes of the Month for June - Dustin DeMuth (Sr., Baseball) and Hannah Boyer (RS-Sr., Field Hockey).
Boyer, a defender from Louisville, Ky., played in and started all 19 games for the Hoosiers in 2012. She was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection, while earning Academic All-Big Ten honors for a second time. Boyer was also named to the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.
"Hannah had a solid academic career, while earning her Bachelor degree in Human Development and Family Studies," said Eileen O'Rourke, IU Academic Advisor. "However, she has really hit her stride while in graduate school. Halfway through her Master's program curriculum, Hannah boasts a cool 4.00 GPA, which is no small feat considering the academic rigor of her courses. A contributing starter, team captain and active SAAC member, Hannah is a model student-athlete that represents all of the tenets of Indiana Athletics."
DeMuth, infielder form LaPort, Ind., tallied a team-best .377 batting average while helping the Hoosiers to a regular season Big Ten title, a Big Ten Tournament Championship and a run to the 2013 College World Series. DeMuth registered 92 hits, 46 runs, 41 RBI and 24 doubles during his junior campaign.
"This spring semester has been a memorable one for Dustin DeMuth," said John Sare, IU Academic Advisor. "Not only did he help lead his team to the College World Series and earn All-America recognition along the way, he was also an Academic All-Conference award winner. Dustin wasn't finished when the spring semester ended. Determined to complete his Exercise Science degree in a four year window, Dustin enrolled in a summer course and completed a demanding biomechanics course. So while he and his team were winning the Big Ten, Regional and Super Regional, Dustin stay focused on school work, when not on the field. Dustin demonstrates exactly what we want from our student athletes, responsibility and determination."
