Oct. 16, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team returns home this weekend to take on Big Ten foe Northwestern on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. ET and matchup with Rutgers on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana went 1-1 last weekend with a 4-1 victory against Pacific and a 5-1 defeat against No. 18-ranked Iowa.
In the win against Pacific, four different players scored the goals for the Hoosiers, as they moved their record to 5-0 all-time vs. the Tigers.
Maggie Olson made eight saves against Pacific to improve her record to 7-6 on the season.
Indiana and Northwestern will meet for the 17th time since IU added field hockey in 2000. The series is tied 8-8 and the Hoosiers have won four in a row at home.
The No. 11-ranked Wildcats come into the contest with an 11-3 overall record 2-1 mark in conference play. Northwestern has beat five ranked teams this season, including a victory over then No. 9 Duke.
The Wildcats are led by senior forward Nikki Parsley, who has 10 goals and 22 points for the season and is ranked third in the Big Ten in points.
LOOKING AT RUTGERS
Indiana and Rutgers will renew their series for the first time since 2008 and play just the third game in the series matchup. Rutgers owns a 2-0 lead in the series, but each game has been tightly contested, and gone into overtime. In 2002 Rutgers won 2-0 and in 2008 they defeated the Hoosiers 3-2.
Rutgers comes in the game with an 8-5 overall record and 2-2 conference record. The Scarlet Knights are currently on a five-game winning streak, including a win over No. 16-ranked Drexel. They are led by Sophie Wright, who has eight goals and 17 points on the season.
