Kate O'Connell Named to All-Tournament Team
Nov. 5, 2007
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Indiana senior forward Kate O'Connell was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament on Sunday. O'Connell scored two goals in the Hoosiers loss to Iowa in the quarterfinal round on Thursday in Columbus.
O'Connell, a native of St. Louis, Mo., evened the score at 1-1 ten minutes into the game against the Hawkeyes. She would add her second goal of the game two minutes into the second half to give a team leading seven goals on the season, one better than her younger sister, Meg.
The two goals move O'Connell into third place on the all-time goals scored list with 21, two behind Kayla Bashore and well behind Lydia Schrott's 41. Her 59 career points puts her in second place on that list, once again trailing Schrott, who registered 104 points in her Hoosier career.
During O'Connell's four years in Bloomington, she played in 76 games, tying her for sixth all-time, while being a part of 51 wins in her four years, the most in a four-year span since the program was reinstated in 2000.
Indiana concludes its season with an 8-10 overall record and a 1-5 mark in Big Ten regular season play.
