ATHENS, Ga. - In a single round of stroke play to set up the match play brackets, the Indiana University women's golf team finished 13th with a score of 312 on day one of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.
The tournament will now switch to three rounds of match play. The top eight finishers from today's stroke play round went into the Red Bracket, while finishers nine through 16 went into the Black Bracket. At No. 13, Indiana will face off against No. 12 Iowa State starting from the 10th tee at 8 a.m. ET Saturday.
Freshman Ana Sanjuan led IU with a score of 72. Sanjuan got off to a fast start for IU, going -3 over her first 11 holes. Back-to-back bogeys on three and four put her a -1 for the round, and she would post even par on four of the next five holes to finish even.
Junior Elizabeth Tong carded a 3-over 75 in the round. Tong was one under par after eight holes but hit a bump on 18 with a seven on the par-5 setup. She would go on to par the next five holes and finished +2 over the final nine holes.
Sophomore Camille Chevalier was +10 with an 82 on the day. Chevalier posted a birdie on the par-3 13th hole and recorded par on six of the final nine holes in the round. However, Chevalier suffered an injury during the round and will be replaced by Sarah Dusman for match play.
Sophomore Maria Mancini finished with an 11-over 83. Mancini was the only Hoosier to birdie the par-5 17th hole and kept her compound error to a minimum with just one double bogey, coming on the par-3 13th hole.
Junior Kamryn Klawitter posted an 84 in the round. Klawitter posted par on five straight holes, beginning with the par-5 17th hole, and also hit par on two of her last four holes.
