Hoosier Women Finish Fifth at Lady Buckeye Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Indiana women's golf team carded a 312 on Sunday to climb the leaderboard to fifth place at the Lady Buckeye Invitational on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club.
The Hoosiers went 312-311-312 for a tournament score of 935. Michigan State won the tournament title with a tally of 904, followed by Purdue (911), Northwestern (917) and Ohio State (919).
Senior Rosie Davies paced the Hoosiers, finishing tied for 11th with a score of 231 (76-80-75). Davies posted her cleanest round of the tournament on Sunday, with birdies on holes 12 and five to go along with 11 pars for her 3-over tally.
Sophomore Elizabeth Tong matched Davies' score on Sunday with a 75 of her own. Tong climbed more than 20 spots up the leaderboard from her position on Saturday, tying for 36th at 236 (82-79-75). Her two birdies in the final round doubled her output on Saturday, carding a three on the par-4 16th hole and a four on the par-5 sixth hole.
Senior Kate Coons remained among the top-30 finishers, placing tied for 26th with an 11-over 83 on Sunday (77-76-83/236). After a struggle to start at +7 over the first seven holes, Coons had eight-straight holes of par. She was four over on the final three holes with a double bogeys on two and her final hole at four.
Freshman Marissa DeCola carded a 79 in the final round to place tied for 35th (82-76-79/237). DeCola had three birdies in the round, giving her five holes under par over the final 36 holes of the tournament.
Graduate student Kristen Schelling was 11 over in the final round, carding an 83 and placing 44th (77-81-83/241). Senior Pamela Burneski tied for 56th in the field with an 84 on Sunday, giving her 250 for the tournament (85-81-84).
The team now turns it focus to the 2013 Big Ten Championships, set for April 27-29 at the Donald Ross Course at French Lick Resort in French Lick, Ind.
