Hoosiers Tied for 7th After Round 1 of NCAA Central Regional

NORMAN, Okla. - The Indiana women's golf team shot a 4-over 292 and sits tied for seventh after round one of the 2013 NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional at the Jimmie Austin Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
Florida leads the field after tallying a 282. Host Oklahoma (283) and Duke (284) are also under par. Michigan State (291) and UC Davis (291) are tied for fifth with Mississippi State, Arizona State and Wisconsin tied for seventh with IU. The top eight teams at the end of 54 holes of play will advance to the NCAA Championships May 21-24 in Athens, Ga. The tournament continues Friday with the Hoosiers teeing off from the 1st hole beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Sophomore Elizabeth Tong is tied for ninth after posting a 2-under 70. Tong led the way for the Hoosiers at the turn, going -2 over the first nine holes with birdies on 10, 13 and 16. Her lone bogey came on the par-5 18th hole. She birdied one and eight and was on pace for a sub-70 score before a bogey on the par-5 ninth hole closed her round.
Graduate student Kristen Schelling sits in tied for 35th after posting a 1-over 73. Schelling sat at -1 after nine holes, including a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-4 16th hole and a four on the par-5 18th hole. She started the second half with a bogey on one but would par the next five holes before picking up her third birdie of the day on the par-3 sixth hole. Still at -1 she ended the day with bogeys on two of her final three holes.
Senior Rosie Davies carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for 48th. Davies had a pair of birdies over the first nine and was +1 at the turn with bogeys on 12, 13 and 18. After bogeying holes one and three, Davies ended strong by going -1 over the final six holes, including a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole.
Freshman Marissa DeCola shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 64th. After a rocky start with bogeys on the first thee holes, DeCola settled down to post par on five of the next six and carded her first birdie of the day on the par-4 first hole. She added another birdie on the par-4 third hole, going -1 for the final nine holes of the round.
Senior Kate Coons was +11 for the day with an 83, tied for 121st. It was a rough start for Coons with bogeys on seven of the first nine holes. Coons would par 18, one and two, but was hit with a bogey on three and recorded a double bogey on the par-3 sixth hole. After pars on seven and eight, she finished with a bogey on nine.
