The Indiana women's golf team posted a second-place finish at the Hoosier Fall Invitational at Belterra Resort in Florence, Ind.
The Hoosiers had a two-stroke lead over Wisconsin when the scorecards were turned in. Indiana's Marissa DeCola was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard, giving the Badgers a two-stroke victory. Wisconsin tallied a 302 to finish at 894, followed by Minnesota (904), Missouri (910) and Boston College (922).
Graduate student Kristen Schelling managed her way through the tough conditions, tallying a 2-over 74 to finish tied for third (75-70-74). Schelling was solid on the front nine and was at even par through 12 holes. She had a pair of bogeys on 13 and 16, but bounced back with a birdie on the par-4 17th hole before closing with a bogey on 18.
Sophomore Elizabeth Tong tallied a 79 on Sunday but still finished in the top 10, placing sixth with a 222 (75-68-79). Tong was 2-under through six holes but stumbled on holes seven, eight and nine, going bogey-bogey-double bogey. She had six pars over the final nine holes but ended with a triple bogey on 18.
Senior Rosie Davies tied for ninth, also posting a 79 in the final round (73-73-79/225). Davies had two birdies on the day but went four over to close out the final five holes.
Senior Kate Coons placed tied for 41st carding a 12-over 84 on Sunday (73-81-84). Coons had nine pars on the day but could not overcome three double bogeys.
Competing as the Indiana "B" squad, senior Pamela Burneski tied for 31st, posting an 80 today (79-75-80/234). Burneski started the day by going bogey-double bogey-double bogey but would par 10 of her next 15 holes and add a birdie on 18.
Freshman Eva Schoenwald had her second-lowest round of the tournament on Sunday with a 79, finishing tied for 38th (77-80-79/236). Schoenwald had 12 rounds of par on the day.
Junior Sophie Hayashi tied for 46th at 241 (80-80-81). Hayashi had a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole but was brought down by nine holes of bogey or worse.
Freshman Maria Mancini rounded out the Hoosier contingent, placing tied for 70th with a 252 (82-84-86). Mancini had eight holes of par but carded a triple bogey on four and a double bogey on 10.
The Hoosiers wrap up the fall season Oct. 21-23 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
