BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's golf team will host its annual Indiana Invitational, April 13-14 at the Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington. The 54-hole tournament begins with a 36-hole shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and a final round of 18 holes Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

Joining Indiana in the 14-team field are Akron, Ball State, Bradley, Dayton, Drake, Eastern Michigan, Evansville, Illinois State, IUPUI, Kansas, Southern Illinois, Toledo and Valparaiso. Results will be posted each night at IUHoosiers.com.

"This tournament really signifies the stretch run for us heading into the Big Ten Championships, and hopefully beyond," said head coach Clint Wallman. "It's key for us to evaluate where everyone is at and to really hone in on our game. This course offers us the opportunity to make a lot of birdies and get into that scoring mentality."

The Hoosiers will enter two teams in the tournament field. Senior Kate Coons, senior Rosie Davies, graduate student Kristen Schelling, sophomore Elizabeth Tong and freshman Marissa DeCola will make up the first team. Junior Sophie Hayashi, freshman Eva Schoenwald, sophomore Kamryn Klawitter, freshman Maria Mancini and sophomore Sarah Dusman will comprise the second squad.

Indiana is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational in South Carolina. Coons led the Hoosiers with a fourth-place finish, her second top-10 showing this year. Davies finished just out of the top-10, placing tied for 13th, with Schelling also finishing among the top-25 at 25th.

Last year IU won the rain-shortened Indiana Invitational with a score of 298. Former Hoosier golfer Kristtini Cain won a four-person playoff for the individual title, with Coons also competing in the playoff and finishing tied for second. Tong placed tied for seventh at last year's event, with Davies tied for 16th.

This weekend's Invitational will serve as one of the final tune-up events for Indiana as they prepare for the 2013 Big Ten Championships, April 26-28 on the Donald Ross Course at the French Lick Resort in French Lick, Ind. The Hoosiers close out regular season play April 20-21 at the Lady Buckeye Invitational on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University.
