Women's Golf Preps for 2013-14 Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Coming off a successful 2012-13 campaign which saw he team reach the postseason for the first time since 2010, the Indiana women's golf team is ready to get back out on the course starting with next week's IU Fall Kickoff in Noblesville, Ind.
Indiana returns six letterwinners from last year's squad, led by junior Elizabeth Tong. Tong posted three individual first-place finishes last season, winning the IU Fall Kickoff, Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and Indiana Invitational. She was also the Hoosiers' top finisher at the NCAA Central Regional, placing 26th in the field.
Sophomore Marissa DeCola had a strong freshman campaign, competing at 12 tournaments, highlighted by a top-30 finish at the Big Ten Championships. DeCola finished fourth on the team in stroke average at 76.87.
Senior Sophie Hayashi made five tournament appearances last season, including an eighth-place finish at the IU Fall Kickoff. Junior Sarah Dusman was a top-30 finisher at the 2012 IU Fall Kickoff, while junior Kamryn Klawitter tied for 18th at last year's IU Fall Kickoff.
Head coach Clint Wallman, entering his ninth season with the Hoosiers, has put together a challenging schedule for the squad. After the season opener, Indiana will travel to the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 14-15) and Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 23-25) before playing host to the Hoosier Fall Invitational at Hickory Stick Golf Club in Greenwood, Ind. The fall season wraps up Oct. 27-29 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
The spring season kicks off Feb. 17-28 at the Central District Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. The Hoosiers then head west for the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 23-24) and the BYU at Entrada Classic (March 18-19).
Indiana returns to the Briar's Creek Invitational March 24-25, before traveling to Athens, Ga. for the Liz Murphey Invitational (April 4-6). The Lady Buckeye Invitational (April 19-20) will serve as the final tune-up before the 2014 Big Ten Championships, April 25-27 in French Lick, Ind. In a change from previous years, the women will play the Pete Dye Course for its championship.
