IU Rowing Places Sixth at Big Ten Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Indiana rowing team finished sixth at the 2012 Big Ten Championships with a score of 44 points at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis on Sunday, May 13.
The Hoosiers beat Iowa (29 pts.) by 15 points. Michigan won the title with a score of 147 points. Ohio State finished in second with 145, followed by Wisconsin (122 pts.), Michigan State (80 pts.) and Minnesota (77 pts.).
Indiana's First Novice 8 finished in fourth, just one second from medaling, behind Michigan (6:52.348) with a time of 6:53.786. The Hoosiers beat Minnesota (7:01.986) by eight seconds and bested Michigan State (7:06.852) by 12 seconds and Iowa (7:17.672) by nearly 24 seconds. The Hoosiers' second Novice 8 placed sixth in 7:10.599, beating Iowa (7:17.599) by seven seconds. In the Second Varsity 4, IU finished sixth in 7:50.541, ahead of Iowa (8:04.831) in 14 seconds. IU's First Varsity 4 crew finished in 7:42.012 for sixth place, edging Iowa (7:42.757) at the finish line. In the Second Varsity 8 race, Indiana crossed the finish line in 6:52.208 for seventh and in the final race, the Hoosiers' First Varsity 8 crew finished in sixth with a time of 6:40.533, ahead of Iowa (6:47.587) by seven seconds.
