UP NEXT: NCAA Championships -- May 30-June 1, Indianapolis, Ind. (Eagle Creek Park)

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Rowing team is prepping for its first trip to the NCAA Championships, which will take place on May 30-June 1 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.

Head coach Steve Peterson, along with members of each crew, took time to talk about preparation for the championship and making program history:

    Steve Peterson, Head Coach
On the team's preparation for this weekend's NCAA Championships:
"It's going great. I think one of the hardest things that the athletes deal with is that they are just rowing. They don't have school, they don't have other distractions so I think it's easy sometimes for them to lose sight while they are here in the down time. I think that's one of the biggest things. But we've been getting in great work on the water and we're excited."

Sophomore Olivia Gugliemotto - First Varsity 8
On heading back to Eagle Creek Park for this weekend's NCAA Championships:
"I think it's really great for our team because we were just up there for Big Ten Championships, so we know the course, we know our surroundings and it's a short trip so there's not a huge adjustment for the team. It's really great to be on a course that you're familiar with, it makes it that much easier to adjust and it's not as much of a shock so you can focus purely in the race."

Sophomore Coxswain Nora Happ - Second Varsity 8
On where the team is mentally heading into this weekend's NCAA Championships:
"I think we're all really excited. It's something that this team has never done before - been to NCAA's, so we're just taking it one step at a time. Our first race is on Friday and that's our first focus, so we're just going to take it one race at a time."

Senior Rower Macey Elser - Varsity 4
On the team's emotional state heading into this weekend's NCAA Champioships:
"Everyone is really excited. I know I'm really excited, especially as a senior. This is a great way to go out as the first team in Indiana history to make the NCAA's, so I think excitement is the main emotion."
