BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Seven signees will join Indiana Rowing for the 2013-14 season, announced by the program on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The class of seven includes Susanne Chapman, Allie Eaton, Victoria Gevurtz, Spencer Manton, Alessia Uhle, Danielle Rassi and Alice Wright, all of which come from a solid background of rowing and sculling, and have a tremendous amount of racing experience.
"This is one of the best classes IU has ever recruited and we are very excited about the athletic ability of the 2013-14 freshman class," said head coach Steve Peterson. "These rowers will add more speed to our team and we are looking forward to coaching them and bringing out their potential."
Peterson talks about each signee:
"Susanne comes from the Indianapolis Rowing Center where she mainly competes in eights and fours, but she has a lot of practice in the single and double as well. She is an outstanding academic student-athlete and we are extremely excited to have her become part of the team."
"Allie comes to IU from Gorge Rowing and Paddling Centre in Victoria, B.C. She recently competed in the National Canadian Regatta where she raced against senior and U-23 rowers and won the C-Final respectively in October. Allie brings with her an abundance of elite racing experience in both sculling and sweep rowing."
"Victoria comes from Gladwyne, Pa., where she competes for the Baldwin School. She is a four-year member of the Baldwin Crew Team, where she mainly competes in quads and eights. Victoria is also a member of the Varsity Tennis Team, which earned her a share Inter-Ac Title in 2012."
"Spencer is a native of Ladysmith, B.C. She is a multi-sport athlete for Brentwood College Prep and is a standout rower on her team. Her four with coxswain came in second at CSSRA this past June."
"Alessia, originally from Bad Krozingen, Germany, practices with the Ruderclub am Baldeneysee in Essen. She trains in the pair and four, but loves racing in the eight. In 2011, she won the Baltic Cup in Lithuania in the straight four. We are very excited about her international racing experiences."
"Danielle comes from Milford, Ind., and attends Culver Academy. Danielle started the year strong with a first place finish in the double this fall at the Head of the Rock. As a Novice last season her eight finished second at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships."
"Alice comes to IU from Wellington, New Zealand. She brings a wealth of international racing experience and has great results in all boat classes. At the New Zealand Rowing Championships she finished first in the 8+, 4+ and second in the quad in 2012."
The Hoosiers will look to add to their fall signees during the spring signing period, at which time they will complete the 2013-14 freshman class.
