IU Rolls To 5-1 Victory Over Southern Indiana
April 2, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Five different players tallied goals for Indiana as they defeated the University of Southern Indiana, 5-1, on Saturday in spring soccer action at the U-School Field. Scoring goals for the Hoosiers were Megan Holland, Rebecca Candler, Jordan Woolums, Orianica Velasquez and Shannon Flower.
"A great weekend of progress against Division II side Southern Indiana," Indiana head coach Mick Lyon said. "Seven players started the game for the first time, which is valuable experience as this young team continues to develop."
Holland and Velasquez put IU on top early in the first of three 30-minute periods. Then Candler and Woolums scored the third and fourth goals, respectively, for Indiana. In the final period, Flower - who has been a goalkeeper for IU the last two seasons - was given the opportunity to play the field and put home a rebound goal for the fifth goal of the day.
Indiana will continue spring action on April 14 against Valparaiso at the U-School Field at 1 p.m. ET.
