Hoosiers Top Butler, 2-1
Sept. 19, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team won its fourth consecutive 2-1 game with a victory over Butler on Kuntz Field. Leigh Anne Cummings got the game winner for the Hoosiers in the 78th minute, while Christie Kotynski scored a second-half goal for the Hoosiers.
The Bulldogs struck first on a long goal by Courtney Lord. Lord took a pass and blasted a shot high to the right side and it carried over goalie Lauren Hollandsworth and into the top corner at 26:50. Lord's first goal of the season gave the home squad a 1-0 lead.
The Hoosiers had a golden opportunity just two minutes earlier, but were denied by Annalise Larkin. Chloe McKay sent in a cross from just outside the box on the left-hand side, and the ball bounced to a streaking Lindsay McCarthy. McCarthy got off a hard shot, but Larkin was in perfect position and held on to the ball to keep the game scoreless.
Indiana knotted the score in the 62nd minute. Kotynski set the play up by hustling into the left corner on a long pass and playing a ball off the defender to earn a corner. Kelly Lawrence sent the corner bending to the back post, where Kotynski headed the ball past the keeper for her third goal of the season.
The Hoosiers regained the lead in the 78th minute on Cummings' third goal of the season. Chloe McKay sent a scorching shot from 22 yards toward the lower right corner, and the rebound came right to Cummings, who tapped it home to put IU up 2-1.
The Hoosiers are back in action on Sunday, when they play host to Evansville at Armstrong Stadium. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. against the Purple Aces.
