Jan. 20, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Women's Soccer team and head coach Mick Lyon announced its 2010 Spring Schedule on Wednesday. The schedule starts with an all day indoor tournament in Mellencamp Pavilion on Feb. 27, featuring Evansville, IUPUI and the University of Southern Indiana.
Then on March 27, the Hoosiers welcome Vanderbilt to Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Commodores were 11-8-1 this past fall and won their final four regular season games before falling to LSU in the SEC Tournament.
The next weekend, April 3, Louisville will pay a visit to Bloomington to take on the Hoosiers. The Cardinals went 5-11-1 last season and will be led by rising junior midfielder Giselle Mangal, who tied for the team lead with seven points.
On April 11, the Cincinnati Bearcats will tangle with the Hoosiers at 2 p.m. at Armstrong Stadium to close out the home portion of the spring schedule. The Bearcats were 8-10-1 in 2009 and return their top three scorers.
To close out the spring, Indiana will hit the road to Columbia, Mo., to take on the Missouri Tigers at 10:00 a.m. Central. Mizzou was 13-6-3 last season on their way to its second consecutive conference championship.
The Hoosiers closed out the 2009 season with a 10-7-2 mark and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. They return six of their top seven scorers as well as their top goalkeeper, Lindsay Campbell. Rising junior's Carly Samp and Devon Beach tied for the team lead with four goals and five assists apiece while rising sophomore Orianica Velasquez Herrera was right behind them with 12 points of her own.
