BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team will play seven games in its 2008 spring schedule, including three games at home in Bloomington, head coach Mick Lyon announced. The Hoosiers will play six collegiate squads and one elite semi-professional team during the season.
Indiana kicks things off with a pair of home games on Sunday, March 2. The Hoosiers play host to in-state rival Indiana State (11 a.m. ET) and regional foe Dayton (1:30 p.m.) in the day's activities. The games are scheduled to take place inside Mellencamp Pavilion, though they could be moved outside if weather permits.
IU plays its first scheduled outdoor game on March 29, as it travels to Lexington, Ky., for a match up with Kentucky at 1 p.m. The following week, the Hoosiers head north to Ft. Wayne, Ind., to take on 2007 Women's College Cup participant Notre Dame in a 2:30 p.m. contest on April 5 as part of the Spring Fling Charity Event.
On Saturday, April 12, Indiana heads to Indianapolis, where it will take on semi-pro squad FC Indiana. The game is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. and is part of a charity event put on by the Urban Development League.
The Hoosiers will wrap up their spring slate with a home contest at Armstrong Stadium against Wright State on Saturday, April 19, at 2 p.m.
Indiana returns 18 student-athletes and eight starters from the 2007 squad. All-conference honorees Kelly Lawrence (first team defense) and Kristin Arnold (second team forward) will be among those returning, along with All-Freshman Team goalkeeper Lauren Hollandsworth. The Hoosiers scored 36 goals and set a school record with 343 shots on the year.
