CARSON, Calif. - Sophomore Megan Pipkens represented Indiana University with the Olympic Development Program region teams that competed last weekend at the national camp. The event was held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., from Jan. 20-23.

Pipkens is a member of the Midwest Regional team, known as Region II, a squad that features 18 of the top players from the eight Midwestern states. At the camp, the four region teams competed against each other in a friendly, but competitive atmosphere, in front of the national coaches.

"I love it, and it is a great opportunity just for me to be there," said Pipkens. "It was at the national camp so all the national coaches were there watching us perform. In terms of the game, you really don't win anything, but you do have that competition drive in you with the national team there scouting you."
In her two years at Indiana, Pipkens has played in all 38 contests with 35 starts. She has recorded eight goals and nine assists for a total of 25 points. That was all done playing upfront as a forward, but unlike at IU, she plays in the back as a defender on the region team.

"It is kind of an adjustment because I haven't played in the back all season," said Pipkens. " After the first game, I was fine with it, and I feel that I played really well."

Pipkens and the Hoosiers will have a busy spring schedule ahead of them, as Indiana will host three home events. On Sat., Feb. 26, the Cream and Crimson will host the IU Indoor tournament in Mellencamp Pavilion beginning at 8 a.m. The tournament will feature Ball State, Butler and Indiana State as well as five club programs. On Sat., April 10, Armstrong Stadium and the adjacent practice field will be the site for the IU Outdoor Round Robin, featuring Austin Peay, Cincinnati, Southern Indiana and Valparaiso. The Hoosiers will also host Kansas on Sun., April 24.
