Jan. 27, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Rising senior defender Kelly Lawrence has been invited to join the England Under-23 National Team for the squad's upcoming training camp in La Manga, Spain, from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3. Lawrence is the lone representative among the 18 players chosen who does not play professionally in England.
Lawrence has earned a total of 22 caps for the National Team from teams ranging from U-17 to U-23. She helped England to a runner-up finish at the 2007 Under-19 UEFA Cup in 2007. Her most recent international competition came in the Nordic Cup, where she played with the U-23s this summer.
Lawrence has gained All-Big Ten recognition in each of her three years for the Hoosiers, the only player in school history to have accomplished that feat. She was named first team all-conference in each of the last two years, one of just three players to have garnered first-team recognition twice in her career. She scored three goals and an assist on the season for IU in 2008.
The Hoosiers will open their 2009 spring schedule with an indoor tournament against IUPUI and Kentucky in Mellencamp Pavilion on March 7.
