Feb. 12, 2009
Over the next few weeks, IUHoosiers.com will profile each of the three IU Women's Soccer NLI signees. Today's preview is of Indianapolis native Ciersten Burks.
Ciersten Burks will head south to Bloomington after a stellar career at Indianapolis' Brebeuf Jesuit. As a senior, Burks was named Marion County Player of the Year and first team all-state as she picked up Indianapolis Star Super Team honors.
Burks, who scored 10 goals and added eight assists in 2008, also picked up National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region IV honors in her final campaign, as Brebeuf advanced to the sectional finals. She also was honored with the Chief's Award from her school. She could play either midfield or forward for the Hoosiers.
Burks earned four varsity letters from Brebeuf, and collected All-Marion County honors in each of her four seasons. She was also a three-time all-district honoree and served as team captain in her junior and senior campaigns.
Burks played her club soccer with the Carmel Fire and Dynamo FC. In 2008, she helped Carmel to a state finals appearance, while she led Dynamo to the state championship in 2006. Burks was also a member of Indiana's Olympic Development Program team from 2004-06.
Along with her time on the pitch, Burks earned two letters in cheerleading for Brebeuf. She has two sisters, Channing and Courtney. The daughter of Derrick and Celeste Burks was born on Nov. 24, 1990, and intends to major in biology at Indiana.
