Signee Profile - Katie Burden
Feb. 14, 2008
Over the next several weeks, IUHoosiers.com will be bringing you profiles of the players that signed with the Indiana women's soccer team in early February. The profile for Thursday, Feb. 14, is of San Antonio, Texas, native Katie Burden.
Katie Burden is entering her fourth year of varsity soccer at Winston Churchill High School this spring. As a junior in 2007, she picked up unanimous first team all-district honors after scoring 10 goals and adding five assists. She helped her team to the Class 5A district runner-up standing and an area championship.
Burden also was a unanimous first team selection in 2006 after netting 13 goals and one assist, as Winston Churchill was a regional quarterfinalist, area champion and bi-district champion that season. The midfielder scored five goals and posted an assist as a freshman.
"Katie is a tremendous athlete who is quick, fast and can run all day and she will be joining the team as an attacking-type player," Head Coach Mick Lyon said. "Every coach she has played for has remarked at what an outstanding young woman Katie Burden is in their program. After attending the IU camp for two years I can see why, because she has impressed me in both of the weeks she was on campus. I think Katie will bring those same qualities to IU and will develop to become an impact player for the future."
Burden also did four years of cheerleading, including two on the varsity squad. The San Antonio native has one sister, Laura, who is a senior soccer player at Texas State. The daughter of Patricia Burden intends to major in atmospheric sciences or communications and was born on Oct. 10, 1989.
