Feb. 28, 2008
Over the next few weeks, IUHoosiers.com will be bringing you profiles of the players that signed with the Indiana women's soccer team in early February. The profile for Thursday, Feb. 28, is of West Chester, Ohio, native Alexis Dickison.
Alexis Dickison joins the Hoosiers after being a four-year varsity starter at Lakota West. Dickison finished her career with a record of 36-14-8, 23 shutouts, an .850 save percentage and a 0.82 goals against average, as she set school records in minutes (4,679), games played (62) and saves (272) and finished second on the school's list with 36 wins and posted six games in her career with 11 or more saves.
"I think the only direction Lex is going is up! She has grown probably 3 or 4 inches in the last year and as her goalkeeping skills continue to improve, so do her chances of becoming a dominating player in the Big Ten," head coach Mick Lyon said. "There have been some very impressive goalkeepers at IU in the past and Lex has the ability to surpass them all with the right amount of effort and of course a little bit of luck. I am so excited to have Lex join our program."
In the district finals in 2006, the goalkeeper scored the game-winning goal in double overtime from 40 yards out to help Lakota West knock off the top-ranked team in the state. She was named to the 2006 Greater Miami Conference first team and a Cincinnati Enquirer first team all-star after earning second team all-conference distinction in 2005. Dickison was named defensive team MVP in both seasons and Lakota was a district finalist in both 2004 and 2006.
Dickison played club soccer from 2004-06 for Cincinnati United Premier and in 2007 for Classics Hammer. She was the team captain for United Premier, helping it to the Ohio South State Cup Elite 8 in final three seasons. She also played for the Olympic Development Program State Team from 2002-06.
The daughter of Emma Dickison is undecided regarding her major at IU and was born on May 19, 1990.
