Hoosiers Take Home Pair of Victories at Indoor Tournament
March 1, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team defeated Xavier and Indiana State on Saturday in Mellencamp Pavilion. The Hoosiers downed the Musketeers by a score of 3-0 and then topped the Sycamores, 1-0.
"We played some very attractive soccer against Xavier. We generated a lot of chances and were able to put home three of them so that was great to see," Indiana head coach Mick Lyon said. "In the second game, we had a lot of players play tremendously in interchanging positions and our back line was outstanding. To play over two hours and not allow a goal is superb and something that we can really build on as we continue play this spring."
In the first game, both teams worked into form during the first 15 minutes before the Hoosiers took control and went on to claim the 3-0 victory. The Hoosiers broke into the scoring column on a goal by Lisa Nouanesengsy with the assist going to Rebecca Dreher. Kate McCusker was credited with the second goal on a header from inside the six-yard box and Orianica Velasquez closed out the scoring with a blast from 35 yards out.
In the nightcap, Orianica Velasquez put home her second goal of the day and it proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Indiana win. Campbell and Flower again split time in goal and both did their part to preserve the shutout.
