March 10, 2008
Over the past few weeks, IUHoosiers.com has brought you profiles of the players that signed with the Indiana women's soccer team in early February. The profile for Monday, March 10, is of Rockford, Ill., native Michelle Lind.
Indiana signee Michelle Lind is entering fourth year of varsity soccer at Boylan Catholic, as she is the first member of her team to sign with a Big Ten school since 2001. The standout defender has started all 74 games of her high school career.
As a junior, Lind had 30 goals and nine assists to pick up first team all-state honors. She earned all-sectional honors in both her sophomore and junior campaigns and all-conference recognition in each of her three seasons. Lind scored 14 goals and added three assists as a sophomore after netting 10 goals and five assists as a freshman.
"Michelle is yet another incredible athlete in this freshman class and I am so excited for her to begin the 2008 season," head coach Mick Lyon said. "She is one of those players that has the potential to grow to the highest level as a player at IU and with the attitude she possesses I fully expect All-American material from her. Michele can play at the back or in midfield and will significantly increase the athletic ability of our big players."
The Rockford native led Boylan to a 20-3-1 record as a junior and a Class AA Sweet 16 appearance. In her sophomore campaign, Boylan went 16-5-4 and advanced to the Elite 8. A strong all-around athlete, Lind also ran cross country and played basketball.
Lind played club soccer for the Sirens Soccer Club, was a member of the Illinois State Olympic Development Program team from 2002-07 and was selected to the Region 2 ODP Pool Team in 2007. She also attended the Indiana Summer Soccer Camp in 2006 and was named MVP.
Lind has one sister, Melissa. The daughter of Jane and John Lind intends to major in business at Indiana and was born on Feb. 27, 1990.
