Over the past few weeks, IUHoosiers.com has brought you profiles of the players that signed with the Indiana women's soccer team in early February. The profile for Thursday, March 13, is of Barrington, Ill., native Carly Samp.

Indiana signee Carly Samp will join the Hoosiers after a tremendous career in club soccer that saw her lead some of the top teams in the nation in scoring, as she will play for Eclipse Select Under-18 during her senior year in high school.

Samp played during her junior season at Barrington - her only year of high school soccer - and scored 16 goals and added 12 assists as a junior and was named all-conference, all-area and first team all-state following her 2007 spring season. She was also named Best of 2008 Class by the Chicago Sun-Times.

"The recruitment of Carly Samp has been a fun process as her abilities have just become better and better and I am very delighted to finally have her signed with the Hoosiers," head coach Mick Lyon said. "She is a joy to watch because of her skill, hard work, toughness and athletic prowess that make her one of those special forwards who scores goals and tackles defenders. Carly, like all the freshman in this 2008 class, has this great attitude of just wanting to get better and a pure appetite to win. As a coach I am excited to add Carly Samp to this unbelievable freshman class."

The Barrington native has also played club soccer for Chicago Magic and Sockers FC. Samp helped Magic to a state championship in 2007 and helped Sockers to a regional semifinals appearance in 2005. She has participated in the Olympic Development Program since 2003, having played with the Region 2 ODP Pool team in 2006 and 2007, and was promoted to the `88 team and led the squad to a third-place finish in 2006. She also played with the Super-Y League ODP regional team in 2005 and 2006 and played for the Illinois ODP state team from 2003-06.

Samp, an honors student, has two brothers, Parker and Chris. The daughter of Fred and Linda Samp intends to major in physical education at Indiana and was born on Sept. 25, 1989.
