March 31, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team continued its undefeated spring campaign this weekend with a 5-1 victory over Iowa State in Mellencamp Pavilion on Sunday. Jocelyn Moses scored a pair of goals in the second half for the Hoosiers, who improved to 2-0-1 on the spring.
"Today's game showcased the hard work and emphasis we have placed on some key points the past two months," assistant coach Woody Sherwood said. "The team has really been disciplined in trying to play an attractive, possession style. We were able to create some great chances against a solid Iowa State team and look forward to continuing to build on that this Friday night against Purdue."
Devon Beach put the Hoosiers ahead 1-0 in the first half with the rising sophomore's first goal of the spring. The Sarnia, Ontario, native led Indiana with four goals and 11 points last fall.
In the second half, Indiana pulled away from the Cyclones, first with Christie Kotynski making it 2-0 on her first goal of the spring. Moses then tallied her first goal of the game, followed by Carly Samp's second tally in three spring games. Moses then wrapped up IU's scoring with her second score of the contest to give the home squad five goals in the match.
Once again, Indiana split the time in net between Lindsay Campbell, Lex Dickison and Lauren Hollandsworth. Iowa State scored its only goal on a penalty kick against Hollandsworth, as Amanda Nimtz put the Cyclones on the board.
Indiana returns to action on Friday night for a contest against arch-rival Purdue. The Hoosiers and Boilers will square off at Indianapolis' Kuntz Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
