Women's Soccer Takes on Purdue Friday Night
April 2, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team will look to remain undefeated in its spring campaign when it takes on arch-rival Purdue on Friday evening in Indianapolis. The game will be a charity match between the two Big Ten squads starting at 6:30 p.m. at Kuntz Stadium.
IU enters the contest at 2-0-1 on the spring with wins over IUPUI and Iowa State and a scoreless tie against Kentucky. In the most recent match, the Hoosiers toppled the Cyclones 5-1 in Mellencamp Pavilion on Sunday. Indianapolis native Jocelyn Moses scored twice in the game, while Devon Beach, Christie Kotynski and Carly Samp each notched solo tallies in the win.
Purdue hosted Dayton and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Feb. 28. The Boilermakers then traveled to Chicago and competed against Northwestern and the Chicago Red Stars of the Women's Professional Soccer League on March 7. The Boilers will also play at Missouri on April 5 before wrapping up their spring slate April 18 at West Virginia.
In the only match between the two squads of 2008, Moses scored with less than four minutes remaining in regulation to help IU to a 1-1 tie with the Boilers. The deadlock earned each team half a point in the AT&T Crimson and Gold Cup race, which IU clinched last weekend with a tennis sweep, taking a 10.5-3.5 lead over PU.
