Women's Soccer Announces 2014 Schedule
April 24, 2014
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's soccer head coach Amy Berbary announced the 2014 schedule on Thursday. The slate features seven regular season home games and a home exhibition game against Louisville.
"We have a very competitive schedule ahead of us this year, which is always exciting," Berbary said. "We are confident that the teams in the non-conference and Big Ten will help us continue to build on last year's success and work towards becoming a championship caliber program."
Berbary, who is entering her second season as the head coach at Indiana, will open the season with an exhibition game against Louisville on Aug. 16 in Bill Armstrong Stadium.
The regular season gets underway on Aug. 22, when the Hoosiers host in-state foe Indiana State at 7 p.m.
From there, the Hoosiers play the next five games on the road starting with a contest at Eastern Michigan on Aug. 24. Last year, the Hoosiers defeated the Eagles in Bloomington by a score of 1-0 before EMU went on to finish the season 12-7-2 and won the MAC regular season title.
The following weekend sends IU down south to the campus of Auburn University, where Berbary spent five seasons as an assistant coach. There, Indiana will take on Georgia Southern on Aug. 29 followed by UC Irvine on Aug. 31.
To round out the non-conference portion of the schedule, the Hoosiers will travel to Ohio State for a weekend tournament. On Sept. 5, the Hoosiers will tangle George Mason before taking on Dayton on Sept. 7. Berbary and Indiana assistant coach Sergio Gonzalez were both assistant coaches at Dayton early in their coaching careers.
With the addition of Rutgers and Maryland to the conference, each team will now play 13 conference games. Indiana will play home games against Ohio State (Sept. 12), Penn State (Sept. 14), Wisconsin (Sept. 26), Minnesota (Sept. 28), Michigan (Oct. 11) and Michigan State (Oct. 31).
The Big Ten road contests will feature trips to Illinois (Sept. 18), Northwestern (Sept. 21), Rutgers (Oct. 2), Maryland (Oct. 5), Iowa (Oct. 17), Nebraska (Oct. 19) and Purdue (Oct. 25)
The Big Ten Tournament will be hosted by Purdue and will run Nov. 5-9.
Indiana is coming off a berth in the 2013 NCAA Tournament in Berbary's first season at the helm. It marked the program's first appearance in the Big Dance since 2007. The Hoosiers also set school records in wins (15), goals (43), assists (46) and shutouts (9) last year.
