BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team led by tenth year head coach Mick Lyon announced its 2011 schedule on Tuesday (May 24). The schedule features 11 home contests and a road trip to 2010 National Champion Notre Dame.

"I think it is going to be a very tough non-conference schedule, with a trips to South Florida and Notre Dame and a home game against Marquette - all teams that are in the NCAA Tournament every year," Lyon said.

The season gets underway on Friday, Aug. 19, at Armstrong Stadium against Evansville and will be followed by a Sunday, Aug. 21, matinee against Butler at home. Indiana defeated UE by a 3-0 score in the season opener last season and then nine days later went to Butler and downed the Bulldogs, 6-0.

The second weekend of the season offers a stiff test, as the Hoosiers travel to the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla., to take on the Bulls on Aug. 26. The last time IU traveled to the state of Florida was Sept. 2, 2007, to take on Jacksonville. The Hoosiers return to Bloomington for a Sunday, Aug. 28, contest against Oakland.

Up next is a trip to the northern part of the state to take part in the Notre Dame Invitational, where the Hoosiers will play Western Michigan (Sept. 2) and 2010 National Champion Notre Dame (Sept. 4). The Hoosiers defeated Western Michigan, 2-1, in overtime last year at Armstrong Stadium.

On Friday, Sept. 9, the Hoosiers open a six-game homestand against Xavier, who is coached by former IU assistant coach Woody Sherwood. Two days later, BIG EAST perennial power Marquette pays a visit to Armstrong Stadium.

Big Ten play gets underway on Saturday, Sept. 17, when the Michigan Wolverines invade Bloomington, followed by the final non-conference outing of the season on Monday, Sept. 19, against Ball State.

"The Big Ten will once again be a terrific, tough league. There are a lot of great programs along with Indiana that are playing women's soccer in the Big Ten."

Later that week, on Sept. 23, the Iowa Hawkeyes come to town for a 5:00 p.m. start against the Hoosiers. That game will be followed by the Indiana men's soccer team taking on Penn State. Then on Sept. 25, the newest addition to the Big Ten Conference, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, return to Bloomington for the second straight year but for the first time as a member of the Big Ten.

The first Big Ten road contest for the Hoosiers is on Sept. 30, when they travel to Illinois, followed by a road game at Northwestern on Oct. 2.

Another men's and women's soccer doubleheader at Armstrong Stadium will take place on Oct. 9, when the women host Penn State followed by the men taking on Creighton.

A full point in the Smithville Crimson and Gold Cup will be on the line on Thursday, Oct. 13, when the Hoosiers battle in-state rival Purdue in West Lafayette.

The final home Big Ten game of the season will pit the Hoosiers against the Michigan State Spartans on Oct. 16, before the Hoosiers embark on a three-game roadtrip to end conference play. Indiana will play at Minnesota (Oct. 21), at Wisconsin (Oct. 23) and at Ohio State (Oct. 30) to end the regular season.

And after a two-year hiatus, the Big Ten Tournament returns this year and will run from Nov. 2-6 at a site to be determined.
