Velasquez Set To Begin Play at 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In a brief interview with Orianica Velasquez before she began her freshman season at Indiana University, she said that playing college soccer in the United States was a dream come true. She continued on by saying that her ultimate goal was to play in the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Well, she will get the opportunity to make that dream come true over the next nine days when she joins the Colombian Women's National Team at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany. The Colombians, appearing in the Women's World Cup for the first time, will play their first match on Tuesday, June 28, against Sweden starting at 9:00 a.m. ET. The match will be carried live on ESPN and ESPN3 (click here to watch).
Colombia's World Cup Schedule:
Velasquez appeared in one of the three matches that Colombian team played in at the Matchworld Women Cup 2011 leading up to the FIFA Women's World Cup. She also helped Colombia qualify for the FIFA Women's World Cup by finishing second at the South America Women's Championship in November 2010.
She has made 11 international appearances with the Colombian team and has one international goal to her credit.
At Indiana, Velasquez has scored 12 goals over her first two seasons and has six assists for a total of 30 points.
