Velasquez Closes Olympics With 1-0 Loss To France

NEWCASTLE - Orianica Velasquez and her teammates on the Colombian Women's Soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to France in the final game of group play on Tuesday (July 31). The Colombian team finished with a 0-3 record in their group.
Velasquez registered five shots - two on goal - in the losing effort against France. In the three games, she collected a total of nine shots.
The team opened the Olympics with a 2-0 loss to North Korea on July 25 followed by a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the United State on July 28, with both games being played in Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland. Then today, France scored the game's only goal in the fifth minute and made it stand up for the win.
Velasquez became the first Indiana University women's soccer player to appear in the Olympics.
She will now return to Bloomington and look to lead the Hoosiers in a successful 2012 campaign that starts on Aug. 11 against Northern Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. in an exhibition match at Armstrong Stadium. The regular season opens on Aug. 17 against Arkansas State at 7:30 p.m. at Armstrong Stadium. Admission is free to all home IUWS games.
