Women's Soccer Begins Fall Practices
Aug. 6, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team began its preseason today, with the first day of practice for the 2008 campaign. The Hoosiers open the regular season on Friday, August 22, at Dayton.
Following the annual fitness test, the Hoosiers reported to the women's soccer practice field, where they worked on drills and participated in 3-on-3 games. The team also played in a freshmen vs. returners game. Head Coach Mick Lyon was excited to get on the field with his team.
"It was definitely a great morning," Lyon said. "The players were all really excited and it was fun for me to get back on the field coaching the team. There were more good performances than bad performances, so that's definitely a good sign."
Of particular interest to Lyon was being able to work with his 10 incoming freshmen, which include two players in Soccer Buzz's list of the top 200 recruits in the nation and a high school All-American. The Hoosier freshmen come from five different states and one hails from north of the border in Sarnia, Ontario.
"That's one of the neatest parts about the first day that we get to work with the players that we've seen on other teams for so long," Lyon said. "Now's a chance to stand next to them and make some corrections. As a group, some of them are a bit nervous, but they're all talented, so it was great to see that level of talent on the field combining with the great foundation we already had here."
The Hoosiers will play an exhibition game at home on August 16 against Miami (Ohio). Game time for that contest is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET at Armstrong Stadium. IU's opener with Dayton is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Dayton's Baujan Field.
