Hoosiers Host Northern Kentucky in Exhibition Match

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Women's Soccer team will open the 2012 season on Saturday with an exhibition game against Northern Kentucky at Armstrong Stadium. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. ET and admission is free for all fans.
Here a couple of notes on the 2012 team as the season gets ready to begin with the regular season home opener next Friday at 7:30pm against Arkansas State.
The Hoosiers return 17 letterwinners and seven starters from last year's squad, including four of the top six goal scorers.
The returning letterwinners accounted for 50 out of 66 points on the 2011 team
Head Coach Mick Lyon is entering his 11th season with the Hoosiers, while his assistant coaches Chloe McKay and Megan Reinhardt are in their first season on the coaching staff. Both are IUWS alumns with McKay completing from 2007-10 and Reinhardt from 2005-07.
Orianica Velasquez returns for her senior season after competing with the Colombian Women's National team in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. She is the first IU Women's Soccer player to ever play in the Olympics.
Velasquez enters the season with 46 career points (19 goals, 8 assists), which puts her in seventh place on the all-time list at IU. Her 19 goals rank fifth all-time at IU.
After a quiet freshman season, Nouanesengsy had a breakout sophomore campaign with six goals and two assists. She also recorded a hat trick against Butler in the second game of the season, the seventh hat trick in school history.
Burks and Ross return to anchor the defensive efforts along with senior Molly Buynak.
With the graduation of Lindsay Campbell, junior Shannon Flower is the only goalkeeper on the roster with any collegiate experience. She has appeared in 20 games and played 1144:15 minutes with a 2.36 goals against average and one shutout.
There are 11 newcomers on the team in 2012, hailing from Canada, California, Georgia, Michigan, Florida and Indiana.
