Aug. 13, 2008
Throughout the 2008 season, members of the Indiana women's soccer team will give IUHoosiers.com readers an inside look of what is going on with the team. The blog for Wednesday, August 13, is by junior midfielder and co-captain Natalie O'Bryan.
It's that time of year again - preseason. Although I would like to say it shares the same joy and excitement as, say, the Christmas season, or the 4th of July sidewalk sale season, preseason holds its own unique joys and excitements.
Being that we are already nine days into our preseason, I will take a moment and catch you up on all the fun we have already had. We arrived on August 5, and have been working hard every day since that glorious Tuesday. After getting all of the meetings and medical examinations out of the way we hit the ground running, literally, and got our fitness testing completed within the first couple of days. Everyone knows you can't spell "fun" without fitness testing! Everyone looked fabulous crossing the finish line in their IU-issued adidas gear that we received upon our arrival to B-Town.
Every day since then we have been training twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The weather has cut us a huge break making it possible for us to train long and hard. Here in Bloomington it has been one gorgeous 80-degree-and-sunny day after another. When we are not on the field, you can find us hanging out in our newly renovated locker room, in a team meeting, or grabbing a bite to eat at training tables.
At today's morning session we were pleasantly surprised with a recovery practice after playing an intra-squad scrimmage the night before. After completing some agility ladders and deep stretching we brought out the stretch bands and rollers from our "recovery bag." We use them to help our bodies recover faster. We wrapped it up with a little competition shooting game, and then it was time to hit the showers!
I am super exited for this upcoming Saturday when we will take on the RedHawks of Miami of Ohio in our one and only pre-season competition at 7:30 at Armstrong Stadium. It's going to be the coolest place in town to be, so I better see you there!!!
