Preseason Blog - Kristin Arnold
Aug. 17, 2007
Throughout the 2007 preseason, members of the IU women's soccer team will be giving fans a daily insider's look at what it's like to be a part of the squad. Today's blog entry is by sophomore Kristin Arnold.
Day 2 is over and we now move on to day 3, but first I will recap today for you! It all started out again at 7 a.m. with a little bit of conditioning. Some of us lucky ones were able to get going an hour early (at 6 a.m.) in the training room to get ready with some treatment, heating/stretching and icing. We did our running on the brand new field hockey field and were able to see Armstrong Stadium and the men's practice field. Both look very nice and our team is really looking forward to home games on Yeagley Field!
After running we were off to training tables for our first meal of the day. I can never eat much after the running we do so I just eat some fruit and get some fluids back in my system. Then it was back to treatment for some of us to get ready for our first training session of the day.
Training started at 9 a.m. and we worked a lot on 1-v-1 defending and attacking. At the end we made the drill into a competition between two teams which always seems to raise the level at practice and make us really work hard. It was then back to training tables for some lunch. We always get out of there pretty fast because we all look forward to our nap time! Before I knew it, it was back to the training room at 2:45 to get ready for our last session of the day.
With a storm coming our way we had a quick warm-up because we played a full-field scrimmage and were looking forward to playing 11-v-11. Needless to say, the storm hit us about 15 minutes into the scrimmage so we went into a classroom and talked about positions, expectations, etc. After our talk with Coach was over, Erika suggested that we talk about our "buddies." With so many incoming the coaches decided to pair each returnee with an incoming freshman/transfer. We sat with them at meals, were partners with them in practice, and were told to learn something interesting about them or else we would... RUN!!!
My partner, Leigh Anne, and I were chosen to tell the team an interesting fact about one another and we luckily pulled it off so we didn't have to do anymore running! The storm passed and after sitting in the classroom it was time to "turn on the switch" and get ready to play. We finished playing and got out of practice at around 6:30, just in time to shower and head to dinner.
Well, that was pretty much all that day 2 entailed and I am pretty exhausted and I think my bed is calling my name! Stay tuned to find out how the rest of preseason goes! GO HOOSIERS!!!!!!!!
