Hoosiers Set for Lone Preseason Exhibition
Aug. 21, 2007
COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Indiana women's soccer team will take part in its lone exhibition of the 2007 preseason on Tuesday night, when it squares off with Missouri at 6:30 p.m. CDT. The Hoosiers, who began official practices a week ago, will begin the regular season on Friday, Aug. 31, at No. 13 Florida.
Indiana has not faced Mizzou since 2005, when the Tigers took a 2-0 decision in Columbia in the Big Ten-Big 12 Challenge. In their only exhibition of the 2006 season, the Hoosiers took a 4-0 decision over Indiana State in Fort Wayne.
The Hoosiers return 15 letterwinners and six starters from last year's squad, which posted a 9-7-4 record and a 5-4-1 mark in the Big Ten. The fourth-place finish was the highest for the Hoosiers in the conference since wrapping up third in 1998, the last season that IU advanced to the NCAA Tournament. IU allowed just 15 goals in 2006, the fewest in program history.
Indiana was predicted to finish sixth in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll. The Hoosiers have one of the toughest schedules in the Big Ten, with non-conference games against Top-25 foes Florida and Southern California and conference road games against each of the teams predicted to finish in the top five in the conference.
