Preseason Blog - Darby Hannon
Aug. 23, 2007
Throughout the 2007 preseason, members of the IU women's soccer team will be giving fans a daily insider's look at what it's like to be a part of the squad. Today's blog is by freshman Darby Hannon.
My name is Darby Hannon and I am a freshman this year on the team.
Yesterday we woke up at the hotel and got ready to head home. It was really cool because we stayed in the rooms with an assigned roommate (another girl on the team). They paired every returning player up with a new player. This was a really good idea, just like our buddy system, because half the team is new. It made me feel a lot more comfortable and also gave me the chance to get to know the girls better.
We woke up to a wonderful, free continental breakfast and then broke off to get a workout in. The girls that played most of the game did a pool workout to stretch out and the rest of us went on a run.
Kyle, our assistant trainer, took us to the nearest neighborhood to run through, a retirement trailer park. I'd never heard of one, but it looked like a nice place to retire I guess. We even met a few of the residents. Some of them were friendly, as Kate [Nierman] and Nat [O'Bryan] learned during a striking conversation with a lovely couple; and some of them were not so nice, as Kyle learned (she didn't want us there, but we didn't stay too long anyhow).
Then we loaded the bus up and rode home all day, but we got to stop at the zoo in St. Louis too! The zoo was awesome, and we even got our lunches paid for there! I gotta say the jumbo chili dog and the nacho meals were a good choice. We weren't at the zoo long but it was a nice break.
We popped in a couple movies and we were home before we knew it! Plus, our bus driver Randy was pretty cool which made it even more fun. Thanks Randy!
