Preseason Blog - Taylor Miller
Aug. 27, 2007
Throughout the 2007 preseason, members of the IU women's soccer team will be giving fans a daily insider's look at what it's like to be a part of the squad. Today's blog is by freshman Taylor Miller.
We began day number 10 of preseason with breakfast at 7 a.m. After my usual bowl of cereal and fruit, we headed out to the fields to begin our first training session of the day at 8:30.
We began practice with a quick warm-up consisting of some possession as well as passing drills. This was followed by a half-field scrimmage where we worked on our offensive attack as well as our defense.
After practice, we headed back to training tables for lunch. We didn't have too much time in between our sessions that day because we were going to the weight room for the first time shortly after. When 1 p.m. rolled around, we were waiting patiently inside the weight room of Memorial Stadium for Julie Grubbs to show us around the room.
After the demonstrations were over, we paired off with our buddies and began to lift. We gave ourselves a full body workout. Lunges, bench presses, calf raises and push-ups were only a few of the things we put our body through. Once we had finished all our sets, together as a team we did an abs workout. In honor of Beverly Markwort's 22nd birthday, we did 22 reps in each set.
Our last training session of the day began at 4 p.m. We had an intra-squad scrimmage again, and due to the temperature (about 99 degrees), we played three 15 minute periods. The game was very intense and ended in a 1-1 tie. Coach even decided to jump in for the last couple of minutes.
Once the scrimmage was over, the team cooled down while my buddy, Suzie Teixeira, and I prepared for our worst-case scenario skit. I put on a green shirt to play the role of the alligator in our skit, entitled "How to Wrestle Free from an Alligator," while Suzie explained the procedure. After our skit, everyone headed over to training tables for dinner before going home and sleeping in preparation for our last two days of preseason.
