Boca Raton, Fla.— In a hard fought battle against FAU, the Indiana Hoosiers women’s soccer team dropped its second game of the season, 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the FAU Kick Off Classic.

The only goal of the game came at the 34:31 mark when Karyna Espinoza crossed the ball from the right side and Janine Aylward was there to connect and put the ball into the net.

Although the Owls got on the board first the Hoosiers dominated in the first half of play as they maintained the ball on their side of the field for majority of the 45 minutes. Indiana used their quick feet and crisp passing to outshoot the Owls seven to two.

Six Hoosiers had chances to put the ball in the net. One of the closest attempts came when Shelly Grutzka took a cross from Emily Hotz in the center and kicked it to the right of the net, forcing the Owl’s Molly Keating to make a diving catch.

The Hoosiers struck again at the mid-way through the first half when Carrie DeFreece crossed the ball perfectly in the middle, allowing Kim Grodek to get a ahead on it. Grodek’s header appeared to be on target, but flew just over the top of the crossbar.

Going into the second half, the Hoosiers were out for revenge. The game became very physical as the fifth yellow card of the game was issued. Ali Brown issued pressure on the defense, taking two shots.

Freshman Stacey Van Boxmeer, who had her first career start, and senior Shaunna Daugherty split time in the net, each playing a half. Both earned one save.

The Hoosiers made the Owl’s goalkeeper Molly Keeting work as they fired a total of 9 shots, five of which were on goal.

Indiana will be back in action Sept 5-7 when they travel to St. Louis ,Mo. to participate in the Toys for Tots/Military Academies Classic. They will face St. Louis on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Army on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
