RECORD VS. OPPONENTS
The Hoosiers have played in-state foe Notre Dame nine times in the history of the program and are still looking for their first win over the Irish. The last meeting between the two programs came in 2001 in South Bend and the Irish came away with a 2-1 victory in overtime - by far the closest game of the series.
Indiana and Western Michigan have met just once prior and that was last year at Armstrong Stadium, where the Hoosiers pulled out a 2-1 win in overtime thanks to Lara Ross' goal in the 108th minute
GETTING A GOOD START
The first half has been very good to the Hoosiers so far this season as six of the 10 overall goals scored by IU have come in the first 45 minutes.
In contrast, Indiana scored eight total first half goals during the entire 2010 season.
CALL HER CLUTCH
Junior forward Orianica Velasquez wasted little time making a splash on the Big Ten women's soccer scene after arriving from Colombia just over three years ago. In that time, she has come up big when the team needed her most. After her goal in the 54th minute against Oakland that proved to be the game-winner, it gave her five career game-winning goals. The list of all five is below:
Date - Opponent - Minute - Score
8/28/11 - Oakland - 54th - 1-0
8/29/10 - at Butler - 26th - 6-0
9/19/10 - Cent. Michigan - 73rd - 2-1
9/18/09 - Green Bay - 62nd - 2-0
9/16/09 - Butler -- 79th - 1-0
WE HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE
The Hoosiers participation in the Notre Dame adidas Invitational this weekend marks the second appearance in the event. The first appearance came in 1998, when the IU lost to Notre Dame and Missouri.
A total of eight players have registered at least one point so far this season for the Hoosiers. Of those eight, only Orianica Velasquez and Carly Samp had more than one point to their credit entering the 2011 season.
ONE FOR THE BOOKS
In the 1-0 win over Oakland last Sunday at Armstrong Stadium, Orianica Velasquez and Lindsay Campbell continued to make their push up the career record list.
Velasquez scored her 15th career goal to move into a tie for seventh place on the career goal scored list with current teammate Carly Samp.
Campbell earned her 12th career shutout to move into third place on the career shutout list for goalkeepers in IU history. She is just three behind the school-record holder Ashley Davis.
