    INDIANA WINS OPENER
    BEATS XAVIER 4-1

Bloomington, Ind. -- Indiana University women's soccer coach Joe Kelley made it six for six in season openers with a 4-1 victory over Xavier (0-1) at Bill Armstrong Stadium Tuesday. The Hoosiers are now 2-2 all-time vs. Xavier.

The Hoosiers took a 1-0 lead on a goal by junior forward Tracy Grose at the 22 minute mark. Junior forward Abby Ryan had assisted Grose, then scored the second Hoosier goal at the 51 minute mark to make it 2-0 Indiana. Ryan also scored the last goal of the evening at 84:00. Ryan's five points on the night ties her for sixth on the all-time single game list for the Hoosiers.

After Xavier's Annette Gruber's direct goal at 55:50 which cut the lead to 2-1, Hoosier sophomore midfielder Kendall Willis scored from the left side on a feed from freshman midfielder Kelly Kram to give the Hoosiers a 3-1 lead with 15:30 to play.

Head coach Joe Kelley was pleased with the performance. "It's a great way to start, said Kelley. "We were lethargic in the first half, but once we decided to play, we created some great opportunities. Abby Ryan is very creative and we need her to keep going forward. She is fearless with the ball and may lose it at times, but she doesn't let that bother her and she just keeps playing."

Indiana's next game is at home versus IUPUI on Sunday September 6 at 6 p.m.
