September 3, 1999 HOOSIERS LOSE 2-1 TO MISSOURI
Columbia, Mo.--The Indiana womens soccer team fired four shots in the final 3:21, all of which were saved, as the Hoosiers fell 2-1 to Missouri at Walton Soccer Stadium Friday afternoon.
After falling behind 2-0 in the 58th minute, the Hoosiers (0-2-0) looked to be out of the game, but Kelly Kram put the Hoosiers in reach with a goal from 30 yards out at the 67:10 mark. Over the final 22 minutes IU picked up the pace, firing six of its 13 shots in the time. Senior Carrie Watts led the Hoosier with four shots, including two in the final two minutes.
Missouri (2-1-0) scored first in the 11th minute when Nikki Thole took a pass from Sarah Sallee and fired it past IU goalkeeper Ashley Davis. Thole also scored the second Tiger goal in the 58th minute with Sallee and Amy Timmermann assisting.
Davis played well for the Hoosiers despite the 2-1 loss, making seven saves, two of which appeared to be certain goals.
IU coach Joe Kelley continued to use a freshman heavy lineup, with four starting and two entering as reserves. Kate Kastl, Jenny Mann, and Emily Markwell started for the second time, and Jessie Rabin garnered the first start of her young Hoosier career.
Indiana returns to action Sunday at 11 a.m. against Vanderbilt (1-2-0) in the second day of the Tiger Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
