Throughout the 2007 season, members of the IU women's soccer team will be giving fans a daily insider's look at what it's like to be a part of the squad. Today's blog is by freshman Leigh Anne Cummings.

This weekend was a really positive weekend for the team. We left for Florida on Thursday and flew into Jacksonville. When we arrived at Jacksonville airport we got on our coach bus and went to the hotel. The next day we woke up had a walk-through at the practice field of the Gators. Their facilities were so nice, and the weather wasn't as bad as everyone anticipated it would be.

So after the walk-through everyone got some sleep, and got ready for our game at 7. When we got to the field, our warm-up was really intense and everyone was focused on the game. The game was so exciting, because of how close it was. The goal the Gators scored was a deflection that was an unlucky bounce for our team, and the attacker capitalized on it. Throughout the whole game we were so close to scoring, but we weren't that lucky and came out losing 0-1. Even though we lost, I think the intensity of the game and the feeling of giving such a highly ranked team a run for their money was such a good way to kick off the season. It really brought the team together, and got us focused and ready for the rest of the season.

Saturday, we left Gainesville for Jacksonville. We stopped at the beach on the way - it was beautiful. It was a good time to relax and just hang out with all the girls. Everyone went swimming and walked on the boardwalk, and apparently coach has some experience in flying kites because he was suprisingly very good at flying them. After we left the beach, we checked into our hotel, went out to eat, and some girls later went to the movies.

The next day we woke up ready for our game against Jacksonville. Nobody was really that sore since we did our recovery routine immediately after the game on Friday. The Jacksonville game started off a little slow. I think that most of the people underestimated our opponents. As the game went on, we went down 3-2, however we came together and managed to tie it up. Pulling it together we won the game in overtime. We played so well in overtime; Jacksonville barely crossed their half and we outshot them by a substantial amount.

After the game was over we showered in the locker room and caught a flight home. The whole weekend was so much fun. I think that it was a great way to start our season, we got a lot accomplished as a team and had so much fun the whole trip. I can't wait for more trips like this. We're all ready for the rest of our season and excited for our first home game on Friday at 7! GO HOOSIERS!!!
