Columbia, Missouri -- The Indiana women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Vanderbilt Sunday afternoon in the Tiger Invitational hosted by Missouri.
The Commodores (2-2-0) scored the lone goal in the 26th minute as Asta Helgadottir found the net off a corner served by Katherine Carroll.
Despite getting outshot 19-8 and giving up ten corner kicks, the Hoosiers (0-3-0) stayed close and had some chances to tie the game, including one by senior forward Tracy Grose that slid just by the post midway through the second half.
IU goalkeeper Ashley Davis had another excellent game, recording nine saves and attacking several balls before Vanderbilt could fire on goal.
The Hoosiers looked to have control early, firing four shots between the ninth and 17th minutes. Senior Carrie Watts took two of the shots off direct kick with one just clearing the crossbar and the other went just wide. IU freshman Jenny Mann continued her aggressive offensive play, taking two shots for the third game in a row.
The Hoosiers return to action Friday evening against Montana at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis at 6 p.m.
